.300 Blackout Magazine Identification Band Giveaway

| February 14, 2014 | 10 Comments

Thanks to Faxon Firearms (makers of the ARAK upper and totally awesome people), we have some .300 Blackout magazine identification bands to give away.

One of the benefits of the 300 Blackout platform is that it is almost 100% compatible with existing 5.56×45 AR15 firearms. All you need to do is change the barrel.

Apparently some folk have taken it upon themselves to chamber a .300 Blackout round in their .223 / 5.56 rifle and pull the trigger. This results in a dangerous situation. In the post I linked, the upper part of the AR was damaged.

Mr. Faxon makes both 5.56 and .300 Blackout uppers, and he wants all of his customers to keep their ammunition squared away. I think he anticipates his customers swapping uppers between lowers, and if someone isn’t paying attention, the wrong caliber goes in the wrong chamber.

Remember when I said Mr. Faxon was awesome? Here’s an example of how awesome he is.

He gave me a fistful of magazine identification bands at SHOT Show 2014 this year and asked me to give them away to everyone shooting .300 Blackout.

Yes, I was going to do a write-up on his products based on a reader request, but I think he would have given me a grip if I was just talking about .300 at all.

These are rubber bands screened with the Faxon Firearms logo and .300 BLK in big letters. You snap the bands around your magazine.

It should be obvious, but the bands fit around all manner of 5.56 AR mags. I’ve got them around a USGI-style mag, MagPul PMAG and a Troy Industries magazine here. The band seems almost custom-sized for the base of the PMAG.

I did a few practice mag changes with my bare hands to see if the bands come off. No problems there, but if you’re wearing gloves and/or have burly man-hands you might want to pay attention to the bands slipping down.

The Giveaway

I’m giving away up to 3 bundles of 5 magazine bands.

Grand Prize

In addition, I’m going to celebrate my inclusion in the Brownells writer program by giving away three of their 30-round aluminum AR15 mags plus 10 .300 Blackout magazine identification rubber bands as the grand prize.

The bands are an excellent idea to make our sport much safer.
Thanks for putting this givaway on.

  3. Tox says:

Nice. Only thing I would change is to either do 2 different colors so you can distinguish between supersonic and subsonic or have one side printed as 300 BLK and the other side printed “supersonic” or “subsonic”.

I agree — I believe there are other people selling their own version of these bands that are one color for subsonic and one for supersonic. I’m super happy that Mr. Faxon gave these out, maybe some free ones will encourage people to make or buy their own.

One of the best things I have seen yet needs to be expanded to all AR cals 223,6.5,6.8 even the ar-10’s seems to be a great idea especially if you are at a range.
