Adidas Capital Sling Bag for EDC Review

| October 19, 2015 | 3 Comments

The Adidas Rydell sling bag is the bag I recommend the most for larger-sized PDW and SBR every day carry.

Unfortunately it appears that Adidas has discontinued the Rydell. The Capital is the replacement, but unfortunately it’s a poor successor.

Things I dislike about the Capital:

  • The main compartment opens at a flatter angle, which makes accessing a larger firearm more difficult than the Rydell
  • More flimsy material
  • Single zipper keeps the Capital from being easily locked
  • Accessory pouch on the strap no longer holds a Glock 17-sized magazine
  • External snap pocket is too large

The only benefit to the Capital (aside from that fact it’s still in production) is that the price is generally lower than the Rydell. The MSRP is $65, but you can find it on sale on Amazon for as low as $20 if you don’t mind some of the colors. I bought mine at $40 and it went on sale for $35 two days after.

I don’t recommend the Capital, and am sending mine back for a refund. However, if you don’t mind some of the problems I had with it (such as a single zipper, or the material) then the overall design and shape are still best of class.

If you plan on keeping a smaller weapon in the main compartment such as the MPA 30DMG or MPA 930SST then the draw angle may not effect you as much as it did with my AR15 pistol. That being said if you’re going to carry a vSBR like those you should downsize your bag anyway.

What’s your total length on your AR SBR?

First, thank you for your quality efforts to provide valuable insight to your readers. I just recently stumbled on your blog searching for a viable setup to CC an AR pistol platform. It’s too bad that the Rydell is no longer widely available. I did find a couple vendors that still have it stock, but probably in undesirable colors.

I’d be interested to see what you think about the Simms Headwaters LARGE sling pack. Looks like it might have quite a few features that you like in the Rydell, and then some. Access angle into the largest pocket might pose the same issue you cited with the Capitol, but it’s worth a look. Looking forward to your comments.

    Cheers
