Check Your Lights and Optics: June 2015 Edition

June’s “Check Your Lights and Optics” results:

Total dead optics found: 0/11

Total dead weapon mounted lights: 0/4

Total dead handheld lights found: 0/6

I recently started carrying the Nitecore MT1C as my backup flashlight, and I think it’s fantastic. My main flashlight is the larger Olight M18 Striker, but the Nitecore is much more innocuous and also less expensive. I might buy some more of them this year as gifts.

It’s been so small and handy I’ve pulled it out several times instead of the Striker. The downside to this is that the Striker runs on rechargeable batteries (which I rotate out every time I post these entries), whereas the MT1C runs on disposables. I probably doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I’d like to use the MT1C less so that it has as much juice as possible if I need it as a backup.

When I carried a cheap no-name flashlight as a backup I didn’t have this problem. The difference in light output and quality between the no-name and the Olight was so great that I never used the cheap-o.

How’d your gear do this month?

I just checked my EDC light and it’s dead. I thought it was on it’s way out the last time I used it, but then I tightened the back cap and it seemed to come back to life. Now today while testing I only got about 1 sec of light before it faded out. Streamlight Microstream.

Better to find out now than when you need it 🙂

        That’s the idea, right!? 🙂

        Replaced that battery.

        This months totals:

        Dead optics: 0/2
        Dead weapon lights: 0/2
        Dead handhelds: 1/2

Not too shabby. I might want to check my long gun illuminated reticules though, I didn’t include those…

I bought the MT1C based on your original review and I agree. This thing is a GREAT light!!

Glad you like it! I’m up for exploring similar flashlights in the price range, but I think it’s a great deal for the $$$.
