Trijicon RMR RM07 and TSD Archangel 3 Holster Problems
My journey with red dot equipped handguns has been brief. I ran a few classes with a Glock 26 and a Glock 19 this season. Even with limited experience, my groupings were tighter even though I had slower target acquisition times and occasional problems finding the dot.
More troubling were the times I discovered my dot had been inadvertently adjusted. Once during training my dot had completely shut off. I drew my pistol during a rifle class, sighted in at a target 40 yards away, and had to use the suppressor sights to make the shot. Most times the dot was too bright and sometimes too dim.
I was concerned there was something wrong with my sight, or perhaps the battery was dying.
I carried my G26 to rule out a problem with my 19. The same thing happened – the dot would be set to maximum brightness.
I switched holsters, and never had a problem. Could the Archangel 3.0 holster from One Source Tactical be the cause?
I unloaded my Glock 19 and attempted to activate the buttons while the pistol was inside the holster. Sure enough, it was possible with marginal effort.
Why I think this happens
You can turn inadvertently adjust the brightness of the red dot either by pushing on the RMR hood or by exerting pressure on the grip, which in turn presses on the buttons inside of the hood.
I wear my Glock for 12 – 16 hours a day. During this time period I twist, lean, sit, and move around. I also run the stairs at work instead of taking the elevator.
As long as you are standing up, the RMR doesn’t appear to inadvertently adjust its brightness inside the Archangel 3. However, if you move around you will need to constantly check on your RMR.
Every time I use the bathroom I check my RMR, and before and after changing into workout clothes. I now do the same “pre-flight” check on my pistols that I do on my rifles.
The Archangel 3 is an otherwise fine holster. However after experimenting with the accidental manipulation of the red dot controls I have sold mine.
As of this writing, One Source Tactical’s TSD did not reply to questions.

Could this be an argument for the dual-illumination model? No chance of burning out the batteries on that.
I am going to try different holsters, but if that doesn’t help I will replace these RM07 for the RMR02 model.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I use the 02 model, I obviously don’t have the issue of unintended button pressing; however, I did have an issue in a recent shoot house class. During night time training with lights, I found that going from completely dark to x300 ultra bright I had a hard time seeing the dot for the first shot. It couldn’t adjust brightness fast enough. Just something to consider. People with the adjustable model just turned them up during press checks.
I am running a Doctor III rmr on a g19. They have an interesting setup where the variable light is adjusted via a magnet in the side of a protective cover. Very deliberate change of intensity, and it doesn’t have a button to adjust.
So far after about 6 months, I haven’t had any problems with the sight function or intensity of the laser.
Cheers!
